About The Space Latina

Hi, I’m Zaida Hernández, The Space Latina, a bilingual children’s book author, space engineer, and proud first-generation Salvadoran American. My love for space started early, staring up at the stars during family trips to El Salvador and wondering what was out there. That curiosity led me to apply for a NASA internship, a leap of faith that launched my career in aerospace.

Today, I work in the space industry as an engineer, and I’m passionate about making science and technology exciting and accessible for kids. I write bilingual picture books that blend STEM concepts with fun stories, helping young readers, especially those from underrepresented communities, see themselves in STEM.

I love hearing from readers, educators, and fellow space lovers. Whether you’re interested in author visits, STEAM outreach, book collaborations, or have a question, feel free to reach out. Let’s inspire the next generation of explorers together.
